had the fussiest fish in the sea (bass)on wire traces with live bait  when tope fishing, so i dont think thay make any difference if the fooker is hungry . but the one thing i hate about wire traces is the cheese wire side of them.........fooking dangerous .
i use 250-300lb mono now for tope and conger, as most skippers these days will say "un hook it ya self " if you want to use wire. no real need for wire unless sharking. iv been close to getting caught in wire with a stroppy conger or thrashing tope, it hurts and i got away with it.

different story if fishing for real sharks where most skipper just dont want the shark to get hurt and will dive in and help to ensure shark and angler is safe.
