Went out today with Chris (toomuchweedtoofish) and a group of four anglers. Big gob skipper on way out talking of recent cod catches says "Been great this year, virtually no single figure fish, everyone a double".

Get to mark, drop hook, few whiting then bang - cod on - all 3lb of it.

Skipper slopes off into wheelhouse wearing copious amount of egg on face. Engages in what he does best, abuse everyone and make the drinks.

Brightens up when he hears "Cod on"!!!

Dashes out, falls all over anglers, grabs net, kicks customer, nearly falls over side and hears "Ooops its off".

Now this happens not once but TWELVE times!!! Twelve cod hooked, all look very good fish and twelve cod throw the hook between six and twenty turns up. Skipper is a nervous wreck and berating said anglers to some tune - in fairness no ones fault, hooks are right, baits are right.

There is a very positive side to this story though as some did not throw the hook. However you cheapskates will have to join the site and read the catch reports and look at the pretty pictures!

quite possibly those cod that dropped the hooks where the same as the ones you landed, i've noticed in the past that cod dont get put off when they have been hooked and wound up a fair way too. i know from experience, i was the gutted one when the skipper pulled in a 20+lber with my hooks and bait still in its mouth!
