Sunday - charter crew who wanted smoothound & rays. Fished marks in Hard grounds & 3 wrecks areas. Not a sniff on squid but 8 double fig smoothound plus some smaller ones on frozen velvet crab. A charter friend a bit further out had similar but caught all bar one on squid. Fish baits resulted in dogs - no sign of any rays.

Gave the bream a miss as boulder & hounds / Bracklesham full of boats.

Ray you showed the advantage of patience and tenacity! After I got fed up with catching dogfish on my bream rig I decided to have a couple of drifts for a plaice before moving to a different bream mark. Then nothing but pout and lost a lot of tackle so I moved off to my go-to bass mark for a drift to catch one for tea. Second drift, 47cm so that was my quota for the day anyway. I use a Fiiish lure gently hopped along the bottom and that seems to work because the bass was stuffed with half-digested dragonets which must look very similar. So I went home with enough fish for a few meals anyway. I'm glad it's not just me feeling shattered with that beam wind, I was thinking it was age catching up with me.

Had a go down the Western Solent yesterday, fished a spot that has been pretty consitent the last couple of years.

Between 3 of us we had over 40 Bream, nothing big 1 - 1.5lb range often getting double shots, but given the last couple of trips have been very slow it was nice to be busy only able to fish 1 rod.

Topped it off with a very welcome double figure Thornback. Was hoping the bigger Bream would put in an appearance on the flood but it was not to be.
