Agree there Ray. West Solent last week I must of counted 25 sets of nets.hard work trying to anchor somewhere. On a better note saw plenty of mackerel being caught off Dorset coast in boats so they should reach us few weeks time.

Was in Sandown last night 1st mark we tried kept dropping in to something and kept getting caught up no bite and I wondered if that was a lost net as no markers. we moved and all we had was dogs and pout.
Seems to be fishing is very poor this year also lots of brown algae in the water

How do you tell the difference between a set of nets and a line of pots if you see the two markers?

Hi guys, don't get down we are all very privaliged to have boats and get out on the water. I will always be a dangler rather than an angler but this web site got me through a lot of medical sh*t and you were all so positive when I joined. The year has started very slow but I'm sure it will end in being one of the best. By the sound of it I out fished the lot of you last week 😄 Don't forget the fish are the bonus it's all about being out there.

Yes I totally agree we are all very luck to be able to own boats and get out as and when we can, It was a splendid last on Sunday just to be out on the water, and you are right the odd nice fish to take home for tea is a bonus.

Dave saw you out there.
There is a run of old pots unmarked where you were. I have caught them before, pulled them to the surfac3 and cut the rope with difficulty. Too heavy to get out f the water. Smoothound ,rays and dogfish, no plaice. Seem to be struggling at the mo. There is always next weekend...😊 |

Went out on my 17 Orkney yesterday early to East off Selsey. 2 of us had 18 bream. All takable size best was around 2.5lb. On change of tide had a drift on Medmery - nothing. Bracklesham bay bream marks covered in nets (so regretted the 1st move!) & pots so went to a bank further South & had some small hounds & dogs. Had some drifts for macks near Chi Harb entrance - had one plus a gar.Thunder storms forecast so wanted to be near home. Saw storm building around Selsey with thunder & so scooted back to Chi a bit earlier than planned. Wise move as it hit just after we recovered the boat.

Yes, fishing is tough at present but it is slowly getting better in my view.
I went out Friday off Selsey and had 8 or 9 bream, 5 smoothies (4 double figures), 2 tope (and had several others on but they bit thru my nylon as I wasnt targetting tope), a nice 5lb bass & loads of doggies. Only tried for mackerel whilst at anchor but no joy. I agree though htat Bracklesham is a pain at the moment with all the nets. Keep the faith! Dunc
