Decided to give it a go today as it seems like ages since i had a good days fishing. Tide and wind were good for popping round to browndown in the hope, yes, one can always hope, of an early cod. Fished for 6 hours with four rods out. Squid, cuttle, black lug and mackerel. For my efforts i had 2 small conger, one small smoothy and a tiny spider crab. Oh well back to work tomorrow! Lovely day on the water. Did anyone else venture out, catch anything?

Out Saturday. You did better than most in the Solent. I was in the Eastern approaches, tried 3 marks for 3 mackerel a bream and a squid in 5 hours. Quite a swell but caught the sun a bit! Wasn't expecting that.

Spoke to a commercial friend today who was out at sea. Too much weed for nets. Long lines rubbish (bass) but plenty of rays. Crab / Lobster Pots not catching much either.

A yachtie caught a codling off back of his boat on his moorings in Chichester Harbour a few evenings ago. Verified by a reliable source.Never known of cod in the harbour let alone that far up. Also friend has had the odd one off Hayling beach.

We went out last Thursday. had shed loads of pesky bream, small smoothounds, thornback, undulate and spotted rays, loads of doggies and a couple of mackerel. Manic 6 hours nearly run out of bait but nothing of any size.

Was hoping for an early codling but no joy
