I have been thinking about venturing round to St Catherine's Deep the week after Easter. I have never fished around that area so was hoping I could get some advise on best times and tides to fish there:
Does the tide run hard and is it worth the trip this time of year?

Thanks

Budgie

Never fished there myself but I know plenty who have and they say fish it on a small tide or you will need 3lb of lead to hold bottom, that's if you can get The hook to hold.
god put me on this earth to acheve a certain amount of things in a given time right now i am so far behind i will never die

I only drift the deeps or troll. Even in short tides the flow in that area is huge. toping at slack tide
on the bottom, and just wind up a bit as the tide gets going, We often bottom fish on the drift
while sharking, but there are better and nicer place to fish for anything you may catch there

Lost a lot of gear there, very very snaggy on the bottom - lots of congers.
An old sea dog never dies, he just smells fishier...

I was fishing down there last wednesday had spurdogs bullhuss and eels if you anchor in the right area you dont loose to much gear. The bottom has changed from what it was like after all the storms we have had this year

great place for for sport fishing, loads of conger, tope with few huss and rays for good measure. we anchor it on smallest of tides only. never fished it this early in the year but going by jasons comment about its still bloody good.
we have also had some nice bass and pollock in there and there is some real monsters of the deep there. iv been spooled there twice and had a nice sized bass bitten off, as has snowy.
iv many times wanted to try some of the ledges right in shore so this summer I might have to have a experiment.
good luck
