Had a good look round one of the early marks yesterday and not a sniff. Heard of one last weekend and the commercials are netting them (and sole) around Bullocks.

Had a go at Bullocks at the weekend but only pout and whiting.

Plenty of smoothounds now though so the bream must be very close. Also heard there was a shoal of mackerel on the surface in Pompey harbour this morning.

Yes I had heard they were netting them. I guess they may be there but not feeding. It would be unusual to see mackerel before garfish, is your witness sure they were not schoolies?

It was Justin from Lock Stock that saw them and he is pretty clued up. He said they were all scattering across the surface in one big shoal.

We have been marking quite a bit of fish mid water but someone said they were feathering herring last weekend so I thought that was what we were seeing.

Went to Selsey yesterday. Slow going at first, plenty of LSD and Smoothhound and a couple of plaice. One of the charters had no plaice but landed two turbot.
As the tide slowed later in the day the plaice began to feed and a few were caught, keepers but nothing huge. Around 3oclock birds were seen working nearby. A quick detour and some very nice sized bass caught on feathers and lures.
