Sounds like a reasonable way to deal with a hangover!
Well done Ray.

Coincidence, I did the same on Sunday evening only the wind pushed me north into the anchorage. Still, managed thornback and a dogfish, plus mackerel. I noticed the mackerel were very fat, stuffed so full they were like little round torpedoes.

Was out Friday, crappy wind from the east.
Mackerel at Dean Tail, a tope out by the Nab, nice ray on the New Grounds.
Yesterday snorkling on Bembridge Ledge, saw bass, mullet, small pollack, gobies, ballan wrasse, goldsinny wrasse, small fry ( looked like herring). Water was lovely and v clear.
Had to go to work today.
Might try for sole one night. Is Meon worth a bet? Donít want to go too far from Gosport as coming back in the dark.

I have a theory. Apparently those huge shoals we see on the fishfinder are small fry. Maybe all the fish are stuffed full with them and not interested in bait?

I must admit I expected a flat sea according to forecast but we both lost hats in the wind must have been afternoon sea breeze. We are so privaliged to be out there it's such a small price to pay

See the appended link. One end clips to your hat the other to your t shirt....
I guess if it was very windy you could lose both! I that were the case I feel it might be the least of your worries...

Gurnard are one of my favourites - nice firm white flesh. I was shown how to prep them by a trawler skipper many years ago - worth knowing how because they have an odd arrangement of bony bits.

Another awful day fishing Solent East and past forts.3 mackerel and a scad!!! 4 rods fishing bottom! Easterly wind. If the cod don't come this winter I think I better take up freshwater angling. Expensive game boat angling 😫🎣

Went looking for sole at night on Friday in the Solent. I must of caught around 50 bass up to 5lb. They were a complete pest! So much for the conservation ban.
Also had baby smoothounds, thornback ray & a big slimy silver eel. Sadly no sole.

Went out today, finally caught a nice brill but lost a ton of tackle whilst drifting!
Thanks for the help Ahab and Fishysaint.
Still no turbot.
Was a. Boat anchored right on the ripple of middlebank. Is this a good spot/idea.
Brill for dinner tomorrow.

Well done Johnny on you catching a brill hope you get that turbot soon.

I like the idea of having a go at trying for squid, when is the best times and what sort of ground do you need to fish over for them.

If you search for posts including the word squid it will return about 50% of the entire forum history based on the reference to squid for bait Angry
