Had two days out of Chi Marina on Lindy Lou. Tuesday, managed to get out about two miles before it blew up and I returned. Wednesday was more productive. Motored to East Head and when the tide started flowing quickly locked into a small spur dog, (quite a surprise) then three smuts and a small bream. All were major hit and run takes even though relatively small fish. Great fun on light tackle. Also realised how much cheaper it is on fuel when I use the right run of the tides to get in and out. Probably saved £20 of petrol. Re ch 16, cannot believe so many supposed qualified sailors do not have a clue about radio procedure, when they have an emergency. Solent coastguard are soooooo patient. Back out again next Monday and Tuesday hopefully.

Hi David

Are you sure it was not a smoothound ? - there are loads of little ones in the harbour feeding up for the winter.

Spur Dog has a very sharp spine on its back. if it was a Spur - it is indeed a surprise. gone are the days when we would be plagued by them out at sea.

Definitely a spurdog. Yes a clear spur by the spine. Used to catch loads of them when fishing out of Newhaven back in the 70s

Wow - that is amazing ! Sorry to query. They are caught further out in the Solent area but have not heard of in the harbour.

Off Newhaven & Littlehampton was where we used to get them in the 70s as well.
