No sight of any Sunday 7th despite trying for an hour or so at Chichester Drop off (one gar fish)& Nab Area. One charter boat had one string but rest seemed to have struggled.

However the 2 of us on my boat,Whitewash (Orkney 520) had 13 smoothies on crab on the Hard grounds with all, except 3, doubles up to 14lb.Great fun on light gear.

Back to Mackerel -Eastbourne Sunday 14 on regular charter - trying to get mackerel for bait for Turbot/ Brill - 3 between 7 of us after an hour or so (reverted to wrecks & had a great day on cod & pollock). So looks slim everywhere -a repeat of last year ?

If I can catch them they must be there! I did notice I was catching more than some other boats although most caught some. As I posted before, you can't just chuck a set of feathers and expect to catch mackerel all the time. When they shoal up there is more competition for food so they will grab anything but when the shoals are less dense or scattered, they will be much more picky but still catchable. You will need some form of attraction so they can see or feel the string from further off, and have feathers that are the size and colour of the natural baitfish in the area. You can use a weight painted white or as I do, a jig because fish will also hit the jig.

Yes I have and am finding it quite useful and is good to look back on and see what we have caught or not which is normally the case

Thanks& agree with you. Did try different strings including shrimpers & also use a jig or dexter instead of weight. Either your our technique and/ or nose for them must be better than mine !

You did well then Adam.
I stopped there today and after a few drifts gave up and moved on.
The only other boat fishing was......... "The Police Launch"..

I'm guessing he didn't want us to see he was fishing hence putting the rod down quick and moving off...
