In all probability I will be selling my boat in the New Year. If you hear of anyone wanting solid traditional hulled boat with an inboard diesel please let them (and me) know. Details :

21 foot long, Cheverton, 16 HP Beta diesel inboard - approx 4 years old - just over 100 hours from new.

I'll be getting a valuation on the boat so price unknown as yet but, given that it'll save me £3.5k per year on marina fees, it'll be priced to sell (but not given away).

Won't be giving up fishing just giving up boat owning. I worked out that I could hire a charter boat, for my personal use, once a month and (a) still get out as often as I do now and (b) spend about half of what I do now.

I've had a few good years but it's just becoming harder and more of a burden than a pleasure. Time to give up.

Its never cheaper to own your own boat so when that stops being fun, time to stop owning a boat. Even if I could no longer go out in a boat I think I would still keep a boat in the garden. Come to think of it, I already do. I bet there is a market for an ex-boat-owners "Man Shed" which is a retired cabin boat, set in the ground with a walk-in door in the side so you can go in and have a cuppa away from it all (by a few yards anyway). I have a patch in my garden in mind already ;) but I'm not retired yet, can't afford to be.

Well it came to decision time to sell the boat and .... I just couldn't do it. I'm moving the boat to a much cheaper marina and I'll give it a try for a couple of years there before I take the last final step.

I'll still have pontoon access but only 2.5 hours either side of high tide - still I can work with that. Especially once I decide to retire. Other good news is, the people at the new yard seem really friendly and not 'sniffy' about fishing boats.

I am currently at Sparkes' Marina (approx £3500 per year) but at the end of March will move to Hayling Yacht Company boatyard (approx £1300 per year).

The great thing is, if the tides don't work out for getting back, I can overnight as a guest at Sparkes' for about £25.  Then I can go out again next day early and get back to my own berth on the tide.

My buddys are happy to chip in with a share of trip costs so keeps it reasonable.
