Hi, can anyone give advice experiance in adding knot glue or simmilar to a shockleader, allowing probably better travel through the smaller euro rod eyes, but also assist in weed coming ashore at trace rather than leader, possibly eliminating weed build up whilst removing weed at shockleader knot.

Hi Roger,
Dont think rig glue would do what you it to as it is thin and once dry you cant tell that its on there. Using a tapered shock leader should do the trick, I found that cutting the tapered leader back so that you tie your 15lb main line to about 20-25lb leader still gives a tiny knot but one which is much stronger than a 15 to 15lb knot Tight lines

As ekeyone says I found that glue will weaken the knot as its brittle when dry.

Halfords small heat shrink tubing works well and not a lot of heat needed to shrink it so no damage or weak spots in line

I would agree with ekyone use a tapered leader and cut it back by approx 1 mtr as this will give a better knot strength. I have found the ones from Veals in Bristol to be very good.

Thanks for the feedback chaps, ordered some leaders 3packs of 5,15lb to 40,50 and 60lb for 22 pounds inc p+p.I have small shrinksleeve
One question -Doombar, not sure what you mean "cut back 1m",pls clarify. For info I am having a go with a euro rod -Gravelle and fixed spool Surfblaster 7000 18lb braid alonside my 13ft/multiplier set up and indeed 40+years of this latter setup. Regards Roger |
