Hi all,

I am new to this forum and also to boat fishing and was after some advice. I was hoping to take my 14' boat out from Gilkicker tomorrow and planned launching from the slipway at Lifeboat lane. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me, and what times I could launch from as low tide is at 9:30 and I haven't seen the slipway at low tide.

Thanks in advance

Andy

The slipway is useable over low water providing the low tide is not less than about 0.9. On big tides you will have to leave 1.5 hours each side of low to make sure. Tom more you shouldnt have a problem but walk in and check just to make sure. I have used the slipway for the last 5 years. The most common mistake I have seen is the trailer being put far to far. You nly need the wheels in the water just covering your tyres and use the winch. If in too deep you risk each wave moving the boat and possibly causing damage. Keep a sharp look out for wash from large ships. If you get in it during launch recovery it can be serious. I have seen boats filled, overturned and nearly rolled over. If you are not experienced you will be better off using haslar or warsash. Goodluck for tomorrow, I will be in the area myself.
