After visiting the fishing show yesterday I decided to pop out in the Solent mid afternoon to catch some Bass on the spinning rods.  Arrived at the mark to see lots of gulls working.  Motored over towards them and threw out a 18g HTO shore jig under 2 hokais and reeled in.  After a few turns I was into 3 Mackerel.  Next cast a small Bass and a mackerel.  Managed 8 Mackerel before they disolved away plus lots of small Bass.  Switched to the FBM with a small white eel above it and drifted the bank.  Lots more Bass. still mostly small around 30 cm but a few double shots made it fun.  Had 4 or 5 that were between 42 and 45 cms, all returned.  Even thought the fish were small my arm ached after an hour of this on light tackle.

Today I went out with a friend in my boat.  Started at the Blocks for Plaice.  Caught a double shot of good Plaice first cast.  This is going to be great I thought.  I was wrong, no more Plaice.  But we did have 3 dogs a Spotted Ray and a small Bass before the tide stopped.  Then headed out for Bream.  This went as went as planned with 6 Bream plus more Dogfish.  Headed back to the place I had the Mackerel yesterday but they didn't show.  The Bass were still there so a bit of fun to end the day.

Things are looking up and Summer is here.

Well done!

I had a couple of bream, rays, conger, pollack and a decent 15lb smooothhound. Most people seemed to really struggle today.

Sounds like you had a good and varied day.  The hounds were close in:

Most were over 10lb

Had 3 rays as well
