Me, for a start. One would look pretty stupid if one was simply "lost" and had to call for help. It could easily happen if the chartplotter went down (mine has in the past) and visibility was poor. If you know roughly where you are and roughly the direction to go and can follow a compass course (assuming it is reading correctly) then you can get to a safe place. If you can't do that then there is a very strong argument for having some kind of boat operator's licence (which we don't want).

Watch for VHF interference, some of the cheap LEDs don't have the electrickery fitted to prevent that. Easily cured by switching off though.

ok thanks for the info on that will bear that in mind if I have a problem, but will only be used will mooring up or anchoring so shouldn't be a problem.

Have had a similar problem with mains LEDs at work when customers by cheap lamps that flicker when switched off as they do not have diodes fitted to them

I went out Friday plan was to go to cuba   got as far as nab rock and bottled it the sea was terrible    so took a hard turn to rhe west and fished a gulley   off culver spit about 2 miles   sth east of the cliff wind and tide together so all ok nothing for 2 hrs   so moved to a hole 60ft deep about 400 yrds west of me spot   once there had a cracking smooth hound and a thornie about 7 pound   my mate   was   jigging for squid and had 2 tide was never strong enough to push us round on the flood so after 2 hrs   of beam on gave up the   ghost and ran into langstone   a tidy 16 knots in a very horrible sea again ruthless excelled in difficult   coditions very happy to get into the marina   bar for a well deserved pint   a mate that went up the solent had a load of yting and a 12 pound cod so happy days for that man
