I think you make that 'link' very well!

Personally, after having served on the SSFC for 2 1/2yrs, I have lost faith in their good offices!

The implementation of a By-law passed circa 1997 to stop large trawlers fishing within 6 miles had never been discussed in relation to or applied  to sea angling charter boats until some 'bright'(?) spark  felt it should apply to all fishing vessels over 12m exactly a year ago.

Thanks for that it is nice to have someone on board with inside knowledge. It makes me feel more justified in not putting a signature to that particular petition.

I am most definately not against it, in principle, but I would like to see it better thought out or at least better presented.

Hi Guys,

it would be nice to see a ban put in place and in a perfect world this would be great for the fishing around our coast - but i cant see it happening not with this or any other goverment in the foreseeable future and as for charter fleets not coming under the ban i think this is right. What is wrong for our sport is the amount of fish taken by charter boats fishing the mid-channel this year i have heard of some boats fishing the brittle star bed and the rips etc returning with 100 - 250 cod per trip this may sound porky pies but i has come from a reliable source, even between 12 anglers thats far to much for the table - they should be more responsable and impose bag limits per angler or boat party and be looked at more closely by the fisheries protection boats etc.

I sampled the cod fishing early summer in the channel and it was alive with cod so hopefully this looks good for the winter in close both of the shore and boats

The yanks across the pond are meant to be ouy closest allies and if you look at there conservation plans for fish around there coast  they seem to be years in advance of us - this is where we should be looking or our goverment should be!

The government won't do anything because there is no money in it, in fact it would cost money to administer and police. One source of revenue for this could be the sea fishing licence. I'm sure the American anglers contribute finacially to the well being of their sport.
