Unintentional species hunt today, one of everything: bass, undulate, thornback, bream, rockling, whiting, dogfish, poor cod, several pouting and several garfish.

Had a short trip yesterday and didn’t venture far. Similar story with a mixed bag. A couple of congers, dogs, some decent rays - undulates, thornbacks and a beautiful spotted. Mackerel of various sizes with a half dozen plump ones to take home. Loads of very small mackerel about so used as livebait turning one into a 3.5 lb bass. Got my first Cod of the season, well ok codling, just about 6lb to a live scad. A beautiful sunny day. I hope others had fun.

Any tips for squid techniques? I have been jigging just off the bottom with a squid lure fished drop-shot, caught one but not 10!

Hi Salar, have been using a noctilucent lure on the bottom with a ball weight off that. Then above two small (2.5) pink squid lures on 6” loop droppers.
Had them on the fingers, the banks towards the Nab from Culver, and last night in 20’ of water just near Bembridge fort.
Delicious tonight!
Will mail you a photo next time I am on the boat.

Desperado, I fish with a good mate who fishes with two rods compared to my one. You would think that he out fishes me but more often I out fish him my only thought on this is that is down to luck as we use the same bait and same fishing method.
