I didn't want to join the crowds so I went south but not too far. First drop a 7.5lb cod then loads of big whiting then another smaller cod. It got a bit rough by midday so I went back in well pleased with a boxful of fish for only a couple of hours actual fishing. After a long filleting session I have 26 meals sorted.

Mate went on a Charter today from Gosport and reported that a novice caught a 30lber. Was apparently going to be weighed at Dave's Tackle in Gosport. Fished East of the Nab.

That was from Valkyrie near the Nab and weighed 30.5lb ashore. It is on Glen's Facebook page and probably his web site too.

I was also at Browndown: must have seen some of you. I made a grave mistake of parking right next to a buoy - which seems to have been selected as a competition mark for sailors - plenty of them - I almost felt guilty (and sometimes scared)  standing in their way :)

fishing was good: nothing spectacular, but a box full of codling was a pleasant result.

Salar, Cod caught wasn't on Valkyrie but on Oberon. I understand they started East of the Nab, but anchored off the Nab Tower later. At least it looks like there are some bigger fish starting to come in.

Nice to hear folks catching. Had a go yesterday as well. Had a nightmare start. After all the faffing about with the tender in the dark I Got to my mooring West of Itchenor channel and "what the f" no boat. yes I did fear the worst. And spent the next 15 minutes in the dark frantically motoring up and down. Finally found her on the East side 500 metres away. A call to the moorings manager today who explained that they had moved her for maintenance but bad weather had prevented them from putting her back. Apologised for not calling. Anyway, went North East Nab and managed a couple of cod 7lb and a nice lump bang on 15lb. Happy ending.

Look on Glen Cairns Valkyrie Facebook page.

"Zac Cairns, skippering Valkyrie 7 today has put his guys on the cod . This monster coming up just by the Nab Tower today.. We shall weigh the fish ashore tonight.. Guess the correct or nearest weight and you will win a free day fishing for Cod .. I will put the answer up here at 20.00hrs with the name of the winner , good luck ."

Maybe there were two 30lb cod.
