as a few might know iv been looking for a bargain engine to replace my old brown band mercury and hears the doner rib ,trailor and engine i got for a 1K

so after a service and few nites of hard work i got the engine running and stopped it over heating.
main problems been it was left for 2 years untouched , so the carbs were gammy , the water pump housing cracked , thermostat fooked, and steering tube bent.
once all this was sorted i fitted to my boat.

can you see my next engine on the whaler next mine...lol

and it did not take long to sell the rib on so quids in

on the first sea trail we have found that the carbs need a tune up and a fancy clean just for good measure so abi(from orca marine) came down the yard today and wiped the carbs away for a fancy clean up, ready for tune and balence up.
after that i just got get the prop right, which at the moment i have a hunch is to deep a pitch but at least the prop is a easy fix. so fingers crossed this weekend i could be out there,
fish be afrade..............very afrade...............i have a figure to keep

That sure is a good looking engine. Bit worried about your figure though John. Would you like to elaborate!

what do you mean andy????LOLLOLLOLLOL
got the whole lot for a grand
sold rib on for £750 with out doing anywork on the punchers or even cleaning it up, trailor for £150 , back up engine from rib(2stroke marina 4hp) for £150, silly guages and gps sold on for £120 and old engine from my boat going for £550 once i get round to sorting it out.
so with all the parts and work done the engine will owe me about £70 till i sell my old engine.
not a bad deal i feel.Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up
so i could end up with a much newer engine with money left for fuel for quite a few trips after i sell my old engine. must admit it was sad to be lifting her off the back after so many years reliable service, but thing must move on.

found out today the bottom carb is fooked, after the fancy clean it showed that the was to much corosion and i need a new housing , b4 it was cleaned it was a state so new i might have found a problem. so a kick in the nuts for fishing this weekend but still very fixable and worth while. new carb from the states is only £160 so not to bad as iv seen some over £500 in the past.

well it been a long and very fustrating time but its sorted and today head out for a quick blast and hit 22kn with old prop so quick lift and i changed it to a 2nd hand one i got from warsash marine(with bit of help and some old collage stuff to work out what i needed) and she is fookin flying. with bit of tide up her arse she touched 34kn on and off and against it hit 30kn. what a difference a 4 stroke makes in where the power band sits.
so a pint or 2 at the jolly and back home with big grin across my face
