Well its come to the time to upgrade my tackle and was wondering what peoples opinions were on various fixed spool reels for beach casting?
My plan is to use braid in 30lb and 50lb to suit most fishing conditions. Currently have my eye on the Penn Surfblaster 8000 as this comes with a braid spool and the spare spools are reasonably cheap. So hit me with it what suggestions do you have as I have a budget of £100?

Brad - you won't go wrong with the Penn Surfblaster - I use two 70's for my beach fishing - they come with two spools one for mono and the other for braid - very good value at around £80 so you would have change from £100 - Shimano and Daiwa also do good reels - get down to your local tackle shop and have a look

I would rate the Penn surfblaster 70s as my son uses one when beach fishing and are very good. Have a look around as you can find some great deals on them.

Decided to bite the bullet and ordered 2 x Penn Surfblaster 8000's from Angling direct at £53.99 each by far the cheapest and nobody on or offline could match the price, also came with free delivery so looking forward to loading them up and giving them a blast this week.
If I could just ask everyone to cross their fingers as this will be the first time I have used Braid.

Veals had them on offer for £49.99 each delivered. Not sure if it's still on, cracking reels.

Personally I still prefer Daiwa Reels, mainly because the after sales service is excellent and they last for years - I have one which is now nearly ten years old and still regularly fished.

Sadly Veals offer has lapsed and now Angling direct have run out of stock
![]() My only criticism is that the braid spool supplied states it will take I think 275yds of 0.18mm braid (50lb) but when I tried to load it last night even with tension applied it was overfull at about 150/175yds. As for Daiwa reels I got given a D4000 back in 1980 as a present to go with my Daiwa 6 in 1 rod and that is still working well, but just like to try something new now and again.
