Can someone tell me whether I can keep any bass I might accidentally catch whilst hauling dogfish out of the Solent?

many thanks. Does this apply to when fishing from a charter boat? Seems to me that commercial rules should apply. . .

Applies to everyone however they are fishing unless they hold a commercial licence.

What makes the rules so ridiculous is there has been more Bass in our area for the last 3 years than ever.

From what I can gather around the country it is much the same. The North East where they were rara has seen loads recently.

It is encouraging to hear that Bass are around. I caught one small one by accident last year. Just the one!

I've had some good fish in 2016; just no Bass.

I fish anywhere between Stokes Bay and Sowley. The good waters are to expensive to reach  with my gas guzzler.

My best bass have been caught within a couple of miles from shore. Go brave, use a huge bait and you will catch a good bass.

I spend most of my time fishing with a whole squid on a 5/0.  It is amazing what can thread itself down a 5/0 hook. Even 4" pout seem to be able to do it. . .
