Well I managed to book a slot in my daughter's extensive social calendar and persuaded her to come out in the boat on Friday. It was as near a perfect day as you can get, sunny, near calm, plenty of fish and great company. We didn't catch anything huge (biggest a thorny of 10-8) but plenty of plaice, bream, rays, mackerel, a bass, gurnard, and garfish. I just nudged ahead on biggest fish with the thorny on plaice gear (!!) and it was neck and neck on the species comp until I caught the garfish. With her first go at helming she managed to put us right on the mark too. Looking forward to the next time she is not fully booked, probably some time in 2021.

Fabulous weather and great catch well done folks 👍
We went out Saturday tried the overalls drifting but no joy there
We then tried st Catherineís conger smallish ones though and one smoothie
Bass largest caught not by me 6.5lb 5.5 and 3.5 returned
lots of mackerel while on the anchor just leaving a set over the side
It was a 3.9m tide so wasnít sure where to go so headed for the strongest tides 2 lb of lead at its strongest
I also had a line break off on my old braid couldíve been my best bass but we will never know so time to change the line on my reels

If braid breaks, check your rod rings. A hairline crack will snap braid like cotton. To find cracks, run a dry cotton bud round the inside of the rings. A crack will catch the cotton fibres and you will see it. Just saying because that happened to me and it turned out I had a cracked tip ring liner, braid was fine and lasted another few years after I had replaced the ring.

Nicely done Neville, looked lovely out there.

We had a go yesterday and got to say it was the worst trip i've had since getting the boat, absolutely nothing touched the bottom gear and it was only thanks to some gars that we caught anything. Tried a few spots on the way back in for mackerel but they were also absent.

It's all a learning experience so i've logged that spot as an avoid on small tides, we've now fished it on most tide sizes.

Also went out Sunday, couldn't believe the fog as set off 6am. Didn't clear till gone 10am.opted for nomansland fort first for safety, few mackeral and smoothhounds. Then headed for Warner shoal and again mackerel and double figure undulate ray. Pretty quiet with no dogfish ????? Some huge areas of weed floating around like noodles, outboard didn't enjoy chopping through it.must of been 20 boats out there but all moving about so must of been quiet all round.
oh well, there is always next weekend!!

Out for a few hours Monday and today.
Plenty of mackerel kept enough to smoke for dinner yesterday, delicious.
Strap conger and a bonus big edible crab which became a delicious sandwich today...
No squid as yet but will keep at it.
Some small bream , red mullet, bass off Seaview today.
Hoping to get out Friday if the weather is kind.

Out again Tuesday, a short local trip with my brother and daughter. After Friday's success we signed her up for SMAC so she could go for the Ladies Species comp. but that put the kybosh on it, she caught plenty of mackerel but only one undulate. We found a couple of rays for my brother but although there were plenty of mackerel, everything else was very quiet compared to Friday. The weather was glorious, enough breeze to be cool but not enough to roll the boat (bro has a landlubber's stomach - he's from Nottingham)

Out Tuesday with charter. Loads of hounds (20+) with only 3 or 4 below double figures.

Fresh mackerel baits for rays etc - resulted in one dogfish & a bootlace.

Loads of macks at end of day. Stopped catching them once we had enough for all.

Just booked Norway for 1st week of July!

Out again a couple of times. First on the kayak on the ledges catching bass on the fly ( good fun), then off Seaview again this time lots of black bream, some bass and a lovely glithead.
We have certainly had a varied diet fishwise this week. My favourite the red mullet that tasted almost prawnlike, lovely!
