Hi All

Not been on for quite a while,  mainly due to my friend having to sell his boat (divorce) and not being able to get out (i'm in the middle of a house renovation)

Been saving up my pennies and decided to buy myself a nice Xmas present, a 6 yr old Merry fisher Marlin 6.   I know they are a bit Marmite but for me the boat fits my needs very well. Engine has circa 250hrs on it with full service history.

Currently moored in Town quay - I'm mainly going to fish the Solent to start but may look to move her when I start to venture further out although I do want to fish both Nab & Needles ends

Anyways I'm just kitting her up with all the safety gear I need on board ready for a start in the new year.

Expect lots of silly questions from me.....Smile

Welcome Tideflow, lovely boat for fishing.

I used to be moored at Christchurch and learnt my boat fishing around Christchurch ledge and the needles. Got fed up with tidal restrictions getting in and out of Christchurch harbour so moved my boat up to the river itchen, just around the corner from Town Quay.

18 months ago I moved down to Gosport Marina. I quickly got fed up of fishing for dogs, whiting and pout in the central solent, especially as the fishing has been sketchy over the last few years. The time and fuel it was costing me to get out to the nab or needles was ridiculous.

When I can get out, the variety of fishing marks to the east of the island easily justifies my additional travel time and a bit extra in fuel in my car. I save a fortune in petrol for the boat. I lost count of the number of times I set out for the nab or needles from Southampton only to find conditions worse than forecast then have to trudge back to the central solent for some fishing in amongst all the WAFI's.

Just though I'd share my experience. Gosport Marina cheaper than Southampton, better facilities etc.

good luck and tight lines, Paul

Hi Tideflow

Nice boat like Paul and Johnny keep my boat at Gosport as easy to get out to the Nab area without having to travel up the solent, how ever Needles would be bit of a run down but not to bad on a nice day

All the best
Dave
