I was just wondering if anyone has caught plaice around the middle of the Solent area I.e. mouth of Southampton water or Cowes. I am too tight to take my boat all the way to the blocks. . .
Possibilities. Bayliner 2452 as per the avatar. Listening CH10 on the hour. Solent UK.

mother bank, stokesbay, hill head, standswood bay all used to hold them, but now they are very hit and miss. years ago we used to get loads in Southampton water from westfield common to Weston and cadland to hyth. but the dredgers have smashed the sea bed to f*** and now they are a rare fluke.
cheapest way to get them might be to give al a ring on sea fox and charter with him when turn up.

Memories.... It wasn't unusual to get half a dozen from the shore in a well planned session. And it was extremely rare to get one under 2lb. Majority of them being between 2 - 3lb fish. Used to get a few Sole there in the evenings as well. Some decent sized fish at that.

Andy sent me an email the other day. I have been a bit busy trying to get me boat into shape to go out with him. I was just hoping that there might be a few places for plaice in my neck of the woods. But as we know the dragging of those metal boxes up and down the feeding grounds cannot be good for the fishing.

Does anyone ever fish the Brambles Bank for them? (not when it dries out of course! )
It looks like it ought to hold them but I've never heard of anyone fishing it let alone catching anything.

the sole still do show in small patches, but they do trawl/net for them so it can be hit and miss.

yeah I used to love fishing for plaice just out off aerospace slip in my little dingy. and like you say they were good size too. but also the water was a lot clearer. I also remember that smoothhound and rays were never caught in soton water but now the are loads of them to good sizes. all change!!!!
