Whats the fishing like from the boats at the mo ? is there many cod showing for you boys ? as the fishing from the shore is pretty grim at the min.
I understand about the weather and conditions etc just wondering if you lot are doing ok,or is it scratchy from the boats as well as it is from the shore.
Have a good year guys and be safe.
Where are those fish!!!

I am not sure if anyone has been out during the cold weather this week Lee.  Its not as if we can light a fire to keep warm.  The fishing was deteriorating last week-end with fewer cod and the whiting very localised.
I remember the cold spell after Xmas last year and my first 3 trips out with Mitch during January 2009 resulted on 3 blanks and not one single bite!  I got to find out how you shore fishermen feel like.  Fingers crossed it will be OK when it thaws.

Has the water temperature dropped to that magic number where the sea kittens go hide in the weed and start their dieting until Summer?

It was a bit slow for me early season when all I could get was whiting. It has improved no end, for me, lately with two or three cod each trip and whiting up to 3.5lb. I just wish I could get out more but the weather gods are conspiring against us.

Next week looks pants again but I had cod through untl mid March last year.

Sure it is,just turnj on the fishfinder and look for a big shoal of fish, just hope n pray it aint spratts.
if Snowy can do it and he is well past his sale by date, then im sure you can do it as well lol.
So then guys
why do you think the cod has stopped feeding around here ? is there any spratts in the area? or are they feeding on shrimps?
If they catching them on the east coast like dungy and they are showing well on the bristol channel(really small tho prob 1/2lb,but looks good for next session tho.
come on guys why do you think they aint showing around here ??
Im just trying to form a pattern of the feeding/breeding around here,so then once i got my maths correct(better than my puntuation lmao)then i can work out what month is best to fish for them.
Question no 2
is there many flounders or dabs comming up at the moment.
Aint anyone ever tried to get a big old net(sand net kind off) and just try dragging it alone the sea bed for a couple of 100 yrds just to see what the fish are feeding on.?

Best way to do that is open them up or watch what they throw up . . . .

PS Don't complain about the shore fishing too much. . . you still get away from the missus and don't fork out for fuelWink . . . at 2.5 miles per gallon.
