First fished eastney the other day in hope of a plaice and blanked nice day but the swell was stupid went home and had a re think.

2 days later fished chesil for 24 hrs 2 venues in the hope of some plaice as i been hearing there comming out and yep blanked,so went back home (think i lost me mogo)

monday just gone went and fished the bristol channel at a mark that should throw up some fish got there at 10 am and started fishing stayed there all day (nice having ya mother live not far away lol) went back to mums for a couple of hrs and had something to eat then back out again to fish a different mark bloody tides were massive but still fishable and managed to catch 2 codling about 4lb each so least the cod are still in the bristol channel shame the plaice aint showing tho.
Sod the plaice now think il be hitting the channel for some cod

Must remember to check the bristol channel tide times in future as they differ from pompey and chesil doh.
Where are those fish!!!

Hugh i dont think its going to happen down eastney this year we are almost into march now and no sign of them yet well i aint heard or seen anyhting what so ever. here we go again lol few years ago think it was last year the trawler came in close to the shore line and screwed up the pea mussle beds where the plaice come into feed and spawn
As the years are going on the plaice fishing is getting crap at eastney tbh i think the the year when you bagged out them 3lb'ers was prob the last best year that eastney will sea untill the mussle beds re grow. perhaps im wrong ? i hope i am but i think the best years or the peak year was when i bagged up every tide ? years like that are far and few between now. i just hope im wrong but cant see it tho

if your after plaice then your best bet is to fish selsey on a boat. how many plaice have been taken off the blocks this year hardly any what so ever its dying a death and we know who to blame them trawlers came in and smashed the crap out of the sea bed enough damage has been done now and its gonna take a fair few years now to get better.

i think your defo right m8, i get all excited after the winter that the plaice will show in numbers, but the last few years its been pants. in a nutshell eastney is crap when you think what comes out to the amount of rods that fish it.

even when i had some nice ones in 2009 it was a crap year. of the blocks its getting harder and harder.

the last good year was in 2007 when you were double shotting them, biggest 4lb 12oz dust bin lid lol. that was my first attempt on them and i had them every single session down eastney that year, what was your best day 7/8 plaice. i think thoses days are long gone m8.

Best day down there was 9 plaice biggest 4lb 12 smallest about 2lb most fish were in the 3-3.8lb bracket. whats killed it is the trawlers and the numpty anglers keeping everything they catch oh look at me i got a small plaice il take it home n cook it gets home and puts it in the bin.

plus what dont help either is the internet and forums i dont care what anyone says but the skipper/crew who work on the trawlers read the forums and when shore anglers are taking a few fish then the trawlers come out and then thats it. anyoneseen a trawler at eastney yet ? bet the answer will be NO and you wont this year either or for the next few years untill the sea bed recovers from the damage that these trawlers do to the bed.

you will only see them at  eastney when plaice are in other than that you wont see them.they are responsible for the lack of plaice and the lack of fish holding features alone eastney. 1 drop of the net will  cause years of damage to the sea bed.

portsmouth waters are getting void off fish the only time worth fishing is when the hounds appear but then the last few years aint been as good as others tho and its all to do with trawlers smashing up the sea bed and wrecking the fish holding hot spots.

Chesil will be the same in years to come watch !

look at dungy years gone by it was brillant fishing there but as of the last few years dungy has died to what it use to  be like. the cod that dungy gets are from the north sea where they have put a limit on the catches that the trawlers are getting (about bloody time) the cod that the bristol channel have been getting have come from the irish sea and the box between uk and ireland aint getting hammered by trawlers anymore this is why thre bristol channel is fishing so well.

come next year the channel will be full of 6-8lb fish year after 10-14lb bracket, the channel around clevedon, portishead, avonmouth, aust, severn beach is a breeding ground for the cod the fish are safe here away from the trawlers if the trawlers tried to trawl around those parts of the channel it would rip there nets to bits because of the rocks etc at the top end of the channel.

worthing beaches will be fishing for bass soon and so may climping ??
if you want fish then get out on the boat to deeper ground nab or needles etc were you will catch unlike fishing from the shore around pompey.

I agree with some of what you say. However I do not believe that professional commercial fishermen that may well have been fishing this way for at least as many years as we have been pleasure angling have to rely on forum posts to find some fish, they do it for a living! After all do we rely on forum posts to tell us where to fish? I certainly don't!!

Lee, its swings and roundabouts, only 2 years ago, the channel was fishless!! you had to fish down here to catch cod!!

at times it will die off a bit but eventually it will pick up again (fingers crossed).... nature will find a way
